I try to emulate the movement of sea life in a simple contemporary form,” says Caldwell in her personal statement. I love the challenge of manipulating the material, but I also find beauty in the physical process- becoming a human lathe. Constant rotation of the pipe and shaping of the glass require absolute finesse. Knitted glass is a technique developed in 2006 by artist Carol Milne, incorporating knitting, lost-wax casting, mold-making, and kiln-casting.

Since 2006 she has been creating knitted glass through a process that involves knitting, mold making, and kiln casting. Firstly, she creates a wax sculpture of the object she would like to produce in a special type of mold which is used in hot temperatures. Then, she uses steam to melt down the wax, leaving an empty space inside the mold.
A previous craft obsession with Turkish traditional weaving had led Gitlitz to explore the country with her father and learn the language. “That was how I really started getting more into teaching,” Gitlitz recalls. As a craft enthusiast, Abby Gitlitz likes to work with her hands, and she likes work that isn’t easy. Paul Counts’ passion for glass started when he was introduced to glassblowing in 1978. Counts observed a master glassblower at work and decided right then that he wanted to pursue a professional career in glassblowing.

Born and raised in Carlsbad, the ocean has been a source of great fun and inspiration throughout his life. Max first found the torch in 2014 at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where his love for the medium completely reshaped his career ambitions. Since then Max has worked with various glass production companies while pursuing his Scientific Glass Technology degree and graduating in 2021. Currently, he is dedicated full time to his work as an independent glass artist working out of Carlsbad, CA. Shaded by palm trees ands cooled by ocean breezes, the glassblowing studio of Rina Fehrensen and Michael Maddy is situated in north county San Diego.
The three-story facade, incorporated into the decades-old building, has 6,180 square feet of glass panels. Bohlin Cywinski Jackson designed it, and the work was completed in 2008. The Harvard Museum of Natural History possesses a vast collection of glass flowers known as the Ware Collection of Blaschka Glass Models of Plants (also known as the Glass Flowers), named after Dr. Charles Eliot Ware. In the spirit of the zen narrative, I want to express a unique Asian perspective. My work Four Treasures takes inspiration from the silence of nature. The aesthetic focus of this artwork is opacity, immateriality, and silence. I constantly try to push beyond the boundaries of light and glass material by studying their properties. It’s such hard work, and it’s a lot of technical stuff that’s easily interfering with the connection between the artist and the potential art being made. I guess the challenge is to get rid of that interference and to just be connected.
